Programs » Baby Bag ProgramWhen parents welcome a new baby into the family they are often in need of support and education regarding parenting, the most important job any of us will ever do. CAPC developed the Baby Bag/New Parent Kit to meet this critical need. The Baby Bag/New Parent Kit provides a wealth of useful tips and resources to both parents and caregivers, including a developmental growth chart, child safety information and CAPC’s Surviving Parenting Resource Directory
During the fiscal year 2024/2025, CAPC distributed a total of 4845 Baby Bags in English to participating hospitals and clinics throughout Contra Costa County and 3301 Baby Bags in Spanish for a total of 8146. A Surviving Parenthood Resource Directory was included in each Baby Bag distributed. In addition to local hospitals and clinics, CAPC developed partnerships with the following agencies:

Baby Bag materials:
- Surviving Parenting Resource Directory: The Surviving Parenthood Resource Directory provides helpful information and community resources for parents and caregivers, including support for housing, food, healthcare, mental health, childcare, parenting education, crisis support, and family wellness services throughout Contra Costa County. It is designed to help families access programs and resources that support healthy and safe parenting.
- Keeping Kids Safe From Injury: This booklet includes important child safety information for families, including car seat safety, drowning prevention, safe sleep practices, poisoning prevention, burn and fall prevention, helmet safety, and tips to help keep children safe at home and in the community. It also provides guidance on injury prevention and resources for parents and caregivers.
- Watch Me Thrive! Birth to Five! This developmental chart helps parents and caregivers understand children’s growth and milestones from birth to five years old, including physical, emotional, social, language, and motor development. It also provides age appropriate parenting tips, activities, sleep habits, feeding guidance, and developmental expectations to support healthy childhood growth and learning.
